Deliciocity Friday: Dessert Rolls

Very simple.
Delicious.
Inexpensive.
 What more could you want?!
Ingredients:
1 package crescent rolls
creamy peanut butter
chocolate

Follow the directions on the crescent rolls package, however, before you roll up the dough use a butter knife to spread on a layer of creamy peanut butter.

There are multiple different options for chocolate. I melted small Hershey's bars and drizzled the melted chocolate on top of the peanut butter.
Another option would be to use a little bit of chocolate syrup. But go light if you do, chocolate syrup stays runny and could make a huge mess.
Or just break up the Hersey's bar (or use chocolate, or carob, chips) and sprinkle over the center of the dough.

Then roll as directed and bake like usual.
If making ahead of time, just pop into the microwave for 30 seconds to rewarm.
Makes a great snack or small dessert.

Love Birds

I totally nabbed this idea from Kim over at A Girl And A Glue Gun.
Course she got the idea from Pinterest so count it as a circle of edited ideas that were stolen!
I love checking out AGAAGG (A Girl And A Glue Gun) blog because even if her crafts aren't something I want to do, she's still an amusing read.

In her post she is talking about making your own canvas. A good idea on it's own but the pretty bird painting stuck out to me most.

I started by painting plain black on my canvas where I thought the birds might end up.
Then I cheated.
Yeah, my hand has a mind of it's own and will twitch and move as it pleases.
So I find a picture I liked of two birds on a wire and loosely traced it. I edited some things as I wanted, then cut it out.
Next I laid the cut out over my black painted area and grabbed a few of my blue paints and mixed them together but just loosely so that as I painted I created different shades across the sky.

Once I was happy with the blue sky I put just a touch of white on a piece of cotton and dabbed it around for clouds. The blue paint was still damp in spots plus I added a bit more blue to help the clouds look more "wispy".

As for the heart; see above, about the unruly hand. I wasn't even going to try to make a nice looking heart.
I used a heart shaped hole punch to make a heart from red card stock paper and glued it on.
The different shades in the blue and the wispy clouds, to me, give it a feeling of a windy day. But no matter the conditions love is all that matters.
(Yeah I know, sappy, but love is good. Try facing down someone who's angry and ready to fight, you'll be wishing for a little love!)

Easy Fleece Hat

Continuing with making hats and bags for little kids who are suffering from cancer for Craft Hope.

This time I made a simple fleece hat for a little girl.
I started with a piece of pink fleece measuring about 8 inches tall by 19 inches long.
I folded it so that the "right" sides were together and sewed across the top and down the side.

Turn the square right side out and roll the unfinished edge up and sew to create a "brim".

Next I pinched the top corners and sewed across to make little points.
To add a little extra pretty, I sewed ribbon around the brim where I previously sewed it down.
I also wrapped a short section of ribbon around the top points and tied twice.

For more flair I cut out a simple light pink flower from felt and a dark pink circle for the center and sewed it down.

So cute!
Ready to go to a little girl warrior battling cancer.

Deliciocity Friday: Cream Filled Carrot Cupcakes

The filling is a bit sweet like a cupcake, but the cake density is sort of like a muffin. However the recipe would probably make some good bread also...
 Confused you yet? :)
I made my batch into just over 12 cupcakes, but next time I'll probably do it as about 1 loaf of sweet bread.

First the filling:
8 oz cream cheese
1/4 c sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla flavoring
Microwave the cream cheese just enough to make it soft and creamy (maybe 30 seconds), then mix in the other ingredients and set aside.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F

Cake:
2&1/4 c flour
2/3 c sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1&1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp ground ginger
3/4 tsp salt
Whisk all these ingredients together.

In a separate small bowl, whisk together:
2 eggs
3/4 c water
1/3 c vegetable oil

Whisk the wet ingredients then carefully stir them into the dry ingredients. Don't over mix.
Lastly fold in 1 cup grated carrots (about 2 carrots)
If making cupcakes, line the pan with cupcake papers. If making a loaf of bread then spray the pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Fill your baking container with about half of the batter. Then add in the cream cheese filling and finish by using the rest of the batter to cover the filling.
Bake for about 17-19 minutes.
It's not necessary to frost them, however, if you want more sweet to your cakes you could frost with more of the same recipe as the filling or with a regular cream cheese frosting.

Candle Chandler

Just after Christmas I found some red votive holders on sale for half off.
Of course I snatched them up!
I wanted to hang a few some how and I came up with the idea of a chandler to hang over the table for romantic, low light dinners.

Materials:
1 thin wooden circle
Some strips of fabric
Glass votive candle holders that flair at the top
Floral wire
Hooks
I started by marking off where I wanted the candles to be. I measured around the circle and made them as even distanced apart as possible.
I then borrowed Hubby's drill and drilled small holes to fit the hooks through.
Next I covered the wood with glue on both flat sides and wrapped with strips of red fabric.

Using floral wire I cut enough pieces to go around my six holders. I cut them about and inch or a little more longer then how big around the holder was.
I twisted the two ends together then used the excess to twist a loop on the other side.
This made places to attach longer pieces of floral wire to be the handle.
(for my holders the piece around was about 7 inches, the piece for the handle was about 10 inches)

Lastly, I cut three long pieces of floral wire and attached on every other hook and twisted them all together at the top. This created an even way to hang the chandler.
Hang and enjoy!
I am using fake battery operated candles so that there is less burn risk since they will be hard to reach to light and blow out if they were real.
